The QuRE (Quantum Repeaters) project is a high-profile Italian initiative aimed at revolutionizing how we secure digital data. The goal is to develop quantum repeaters that allow for secure communication over long distances. Unlike current systems, this technology eliminates the need for “trusted nodes,” making the network significantly more secure and scalable. By integrating quantum processors and photon detectors into existing fiber optic cables, the project aims to place Italy at the forefront of next-generation telecommunications and global cybersecurity.
This initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between the National Research Council (CNR) and TIM, with scientific support from the University of Florence. It is funded under the FISA (Italian Fund for Applied Sciences) national program, promoted by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
